Chrysaalis Contemplations 3

Work-Life-Balance1It has been a while since my last post and a lot of people have wondered why. I wish I could say that I have been too busy to write but to be honest, it is a combination of being very busy and at times very lazy. One has to find work life balance 🙂

Another Monday morning (I do seem to write only on Mondays!) and I am attempting to recap the past few months. I am blessed that I was able do an incredible amount of work of various kinds, ranging from workshops on POSH (Prevention of Sexual Harassment at work) for one of India’s most respected business houses, training in cross cultural sensitivity in teams that travel to and work with people from different nations, to grooming large groups of employees in one of the best known hotel chains and much more. I have also dabbled in various other things that interest me including anchoring a corporate show and trying to collaborate for a script. Being self employed has never been so much fun!

Rewards have come in many many ways; the best being in the form of a CXO client admitting he really looks forward to our sessions, having resisted them in the begining. Almost as exciting was a message from an employee group that discovered Japanese cuisine with a vengeance on their trip to Osaka. They had planned to carry food from Mumbai and stick to Indian restaurants till we had a long session on cultural appreciation and how food is a very integral part of understanding and enjoying a new country and its people. I have also found time to travel, ‘eat, pray, love’ and do all the things that make my life complete.

I would be doing myself a disservice if I do not mention the work that gives me the most happiness, possibly because it rewards me not with payments into my bank but deposits into my soul. As a corporate employee, I had not really done anything to give back to society other than small donations to CRY and the likes. But through my association with IMPA and BNI, I have now taught children at orphanages, organized events for them and participated in their happiness in many small ways. This is a privilege that I cannot even begin to describe.

With about a month to go for the year end, I eagerly look forward to the tasks I have set myself for the next 12 months.
